As political factions in Haiti appear to be finalizing a transition council to take over from the current absent government.
On Thursday, March 21, attacks in Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince, including a shooting left a gang leader dead.

According to the Haiti police and reliable sources, Ernst Julme, also known as Ti Greg, the boss of the Delmas 95 gang, was assassinated in a police operation the day after another gang leader Makandal and his associates were slain during a ferocious confrontation with the police in Pétion-Ville, a suburb located on the southeastern edge of the Caribbean nation.
The death of Ernst Julme, a member of gang boss Jimmy “Barbeque” Cherizier’s “Viv Ansanm” alliance, is a major setback for the gangs’ attempt to take over more of the city.
Julme had just escaped from Haiti’s largest prison in a major jailbreak.
The intergovernmental Caribbean Community (CARICOM) mediated the Haiti transition plan in Jamaica, working with members from Haiti’s government and opposition.
CARICOM announced a list of political groups that will be represented on the council.
The nine-member council was intended to be formed within a few days of the acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation, but several Haitian political forces were unable to agree on a single representative.
