Russian President Vladimir Putin has dropped hints that Russia might just supply North Korea with weapons in what he termed as a mirror response to Western countries arming Ukraine.
These, Putin disclosed while speaking to journalists in Vietnam on Thursday, June 20, just a day after signing a mutual defence agreement with Kim Jong In during his visit the nuclear-armed North Korea.
It should be noted that North Korea has been on the radar of Western countries which have shunned it because of its development of nuclear and ballistic missiles in defiance of United Nations sanctions.

During his presser in Vietnam, Putin said North Korea could be one of the beneficiaries of Russia’s arms ‘donations’.
“I said, including in Pyongyang, that we then reserve the right to supply weapons to other regions of the world. Taking into account our agreement with North Korea, I do not exclude this either,” Putin revealed.

According to Putin, the agreement will possibly act as a deterrent to the Western countries.
He, however, noted that there was no need to use soldiers from North Korea for the war in Ukraine.
“Regarding the possibility of somehow using each other’s capabilities in the conflict in Ukraine, we are not asking anyone for this, no one has offered us this, therefore there is no need.” He added.
His remarks come not long after Ukraine and the United States pointed out that North Korea has already provided Russia with significant quantities of artillery shells and ballistic missiles, allegations Pyongyang and Moscow have vehemently denied.
Russia ‘s President Vladimir Putin stated that South Korea would be making a big blunder should it decide to supply Ukraine with arms.
He warned that Russia would retaliate to such a move in a manner that would be very detrimental to South Korea.
Putin’s declaration came after South Korean news agency reported that Seoul would consider the possibility of arming Ukraine in the wake of the mutual defence treaty signed by North Korea’s Kim and the Russian President.

“In connections to sending lethal weapons to combat zones in Ukraine, this would be a very big mistake. I hope this will not happen. If it will, then we will take the according decision that the current South Korean leadership will probably not like.” Putin warned.
It is imperative to note that South Korea has in the recent past experienced a surge in international military sales.
However, it has always adhered to its long-standing policy of restricting sales of arms in active conflict zones despite calls from Ukraine and the US to reconsider it.
